Foot Ulcer Treatment

Anyone who has experienced foot ulcers will understand how uncomfortable they can be. Feet Option Podiatry uses the latest technology to provide simple, effective treatment to eliminate your foot ulcers and help you walk pain-free.

While diabetes affects the entire body, it can have severe consequences for the feet if not properly managed. Diabetes affects the body’s ability to absorb glucose from the bloodstream and deliver it to the tissue cells for regular activity and health. This glucose remains in the bloodstream, producing toxins that affect all organs and systems in the body, including the circulatory system and the peripheral nerves in the feet and legs. Ultimately, diabetes impairs your circulation, your ability to feel your feet and legs, and your ability to fight infection.

Sport-Related Foot Injuries

Athletes often face a higher risk of podiatric-related injuries or issues requiring specialist attention. At Feet Option Podiatry, we can provide tailored treatment plans for sports injuries and guide athletes on how to prevent and avoid future foot-related injuries.

Common conditions include:

  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Calcaneal Spur
  • Achilles Tendinopathy
  • Shin Splint
  • Knee Pain
  • Flat feet
  • Bunion
  • Leg Length Discrepancy

Treatment involves:

  • Ice
  • Tapping
  • Ultrasound
  • Dry needling
  • Orthotics

Dry Needling

Trigger point dry needling targets myofascial trigger points commonly found in tight, sore, and weak muscles that have formed knots. These knots reduce the length of the muscle, reducing the functionality and movement of soft tissue. Feet Option Podiatry uses dry needling to quickly and effectively release muscle tightness and restore a full range of motion.

Gait Analysis

The term ‘gait’ refers to a person’s manner of walking. When we understand what is happening during gait, we can get a clearer insight into your foot pain or discomfort, allowing us to develop a tailored treatment plan specifically for you.

3D foot scans combine with gait detail analysis to give us the whole picture of lower limb function, enabling us to design good orthosis.

Diabetic Pressure Ulcer

Living with diabetes poses a multitude of challenges, particularly concerning foot health. Diabetic pressure ulcers, a prevalent complication, arise due to diminished sensation and poor circulation in the feet. These ulcers develop from prolonged pressure on specific areas of the foot, often aggravated by ill-fitting footwear, inadequate foot care, or extended periods of standing or sitting.

At Feet Option Podiatry, we recognise the significance of diabetic pressure ulcers and prioritise their prompt and effective treatment. Our comprehensive approach aims to manage existing ulcers and prevent future occurrences, ensuring diabetic individuals maintain optimal foot health and mobility.

  • Fees

Feet Option Podiatry has a range of fee structures to accommodate every budget.

  • Enhance Primary Care

EPC is a Medicare program that subsidises fees for Medicare patients with chronic health conditions. Patients will require a referral from their GP, and the program allows a maximum of five visits from different allied health professionals in a calendar year. If the GP referral letter indicates all five podiatry visits have been used, the patient can be bulk billed as a schedule fee. This fee program best suits pensioners and Medicare cardholders.

Note: Patients seeking a podiatrist in Holland Park General Practice will need to pay a GAP fee. To learn more, please call (07) 3088 7638

  • Private Patients

We accept most private health funds, including BUPA, Medibank Private, HCF, and Defence Health. Patients must cover extras or excess, and the percentage of podiatry rebates will depend on the individual’s level of health cover. Patients will receive a service code they can use to make a claim with their health insurance provider after each podiatric appointment.

  • Department of Veteran Affairs

Veterans with gold cards can access health services without paying the excess from the podiatry schedule fee, but veterans with white cards will need to check their coverage with DVA. We accept bookings from DVA cardholders without a GP referral.

  • Work Cover Queensland

Patients under Work Cover Queensland are considered private. Physical injuries sustained at work are funded by Work Cover.
